Alanya Castle is located on a rocky hill approximately 250 meters above the sea. Although the exact foundation date of the castle is unknown, the contributions of the Romans, Byzantines, and Seljuks can be seen in its structure. A large part of the castle was built during the Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate in the 13th century, as part of a construction campaign that also included the Red Tower, after the city was conquered by Alaeddin Keykubad I in 1220.
