Although the exact date of its foundation is unknown, architectural elements from the Roman, Byzantine, and Seljuk periods can clearly be seen in the structure.
A significant portion of Alanya Castle was built during the Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate in the 13th century, following the conquest of the city by Alaeddin Keykubad I in 1220. This major construction campaign also included iconic landmarks such as the Red Tower.
